direction

would it be bold
to ask of Thee
a google map
of plans for me?
arrogant,
to think I know
direction clear
on where to go
for I’m not deft
at north and east,
and west and south
are mysteries,
and though You’re near,
my Compass best,
faith remains
a tough request.
perhaps if I
just close my eyes
and squeeze my lids
and visualize,
the perfect sight
of Your design
will meet
this insufficient mind?
or better yet,
SPEAK UP, my Lord!
and every word
I will record.
. . .
if this appeal
offends or wearies,
forgive me God
for unfit queries.
prepare instead
this foolish child
to silence strife
and inner wilds,
and pray for heart
that listens greater
to guidance rife
from my Creator.

O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your dwelling places. – Psalm 43:3

And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. – Isaiah 58:11

currency

cash and check
are zip in measure
to currencies
the soul does treasure
like time for scope
for fertile thought
to cultivate
what force cannot
and hopeful words
a nod and grin
encouragement
when doubt sets in
gratitudes
for willing hours
re-bed and build
the tumbling towers
yet when these fail
oft earthly tended
think upon
what’s chief and splendid
paid in full
your life in wages
the love of you
for all the ages

autumn advance

just today, overnight,
the windows are open again
making way for crisp air
after a summer’s sticky end
long sleeves were shook out
and jeans examined for fit
while plans for soups
and groups
were agreeably sketched in mind
I will try to refuse the mums
at the grocery store
for a couple more weeks
but oh!
those peppy stems
and burning heads
do persist

soup4

And sow fields and plant vineyards, And gather a fruitful harvest. – Psalm 107:37

Indeed, the LORD will give what is good, And our land will yield its produce. – Psalm 85:12

a new thing

the morning rise
a new thing sown
begin an unknown distance
I’m leaping off
the mossy cliff
and hope for slim resistance
though armed and apt
to run the route
and quiet mind mis-travels
the mellow mending
of my soul
is tempted to unravel
the milky way
of anxious thought
is wide as moon is high
but I discard
the disbelief
for ever God is nigh

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. – Isaiah 43:19

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. – Philippians 4:6
